Here is some news straight from Melanie, well from Melanie through her mom!
Melanie & Matt have had their first full day with their children at the guest house. Being 10 hrs ahead of us here, when we spoke with them this morning, it was early evening there. They had meals, played outside & naps together. Hearing her laughing & talking with Mebrate/Makeda was such a delight, and Melanie says they will mimic & repeat anything they say. “Mebbie” (her nickname) was saying “Hi Madelyn” & “Hi Jacob” when they were on the phone with Melanie. They’re still using their given names for now.
The children were shy at first this morning, but have accepted Matt & Melanie as their mommy & daddy….. running to them, climbing into their laps, etc….. what an answer to prayer.
The staff there do a wonderful job of preparing the children for their new families.
The children didn’t get their TB skin tests until this morning (Monday), & since it takes 48 hrs. to verify the results their embassy appointment has been delayed until Wednesday, which means now they won’t be flying home until Saturday. First thing Tuesday morning Melanie will be calling the travel agent to change the flights, hoping to get the exact same itinerary as on Friday. Also, the electrical power had been off all day, so computer service is unavailable until the power is restored. The good news is that after 8 or so hours, there were no visible reactions to the TB skin test (which she was told there would be redness quickly if they had TB).
